UK Archbishop criticises Nigerian and Ugandan anti-gay laws

The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have written to the presidents of Nigeria and Uganda, after being asked about laws there penalising gay people. The letter said homosexual people were loved and valued by God and should not be victimised or diminished. Nigeria and Uganda have both passed legislation targeting people with same-sex attraction.

The letter is also addressed to all primates (heads of national Churches) in the worldwide Anglican Communion.
Archbishops Justin Welby of Canterbury and John Sentamu of York said the letter was a result of “questions about the Church of England’s attitude to new legislation in several countries that penalises people with same-sex attraction”.

The letter comes as Archbishop Welby starts a five-day tour of Africa.

NY Post Writer Slams Beyonce For Grammy Performance!

     By:  Naomi Schaefer Riley

''What do you call a man who stands there smiling and singing as his scantily clad wife straddles a chair and shakes her rear end for other men’s titillation?

For years, these award ceremonies have pushed the envelope; Beyoncé’s booty-shaking was certainly no worse than Miley Cyrus’s twerking or any number of other performances by Madonna, for instance. But there’s something particularly icky about doing it while your husband looks on approvingly.

                                 toke
Media personality and vlogger, Toke Makinwa, tied the knot with her long time partner, Maje Ayida, about 2 weeks ago in a private ceremony in Lagos, and the new bride is still over the moon about it. She shared this lovely photo on her Instagram handle with a very sweet message:
“#tokemakinwa #morningrose #love #light #happiness. It was 2weeks yesterday and I still can’t believe it happened. Love is such a precious gift from God and you haven’t truly lived until you have loved. I am one lucky girl, God gave me my best friend, my partner, the “yang” to my YIN, and my Fav person in the world. We are soooooooo different but somehow our differences are so little in comparison to the acceptance we have of each other. This guy accepts me for who I am. He understands and listens to me. Never one to judge, a gentle heart and after all is said and done, thru the years and thru everything we have been thru, I will do it all again with you. I can confidently say I love you more than I did yesterday and our journey, our experiences what we have learnt was all for a time as this. Sometimes you might be what that person needs to see life differently, I am loving every minute of this new journey. Love you Mr A #darkchild #loveletter #romanticist #family.”

Job losses loom in telecoms industry

                                     A telecoms base station.
Some engineers and other employees of telecoms companies in the Nigeria may be thrown into the labour market as a result of the decision of the firms to sell off their base stations and towers. The sale of the assets is part of the outsourcing model implemented by the telecoms firms to cut costs following dwindling revenues. Although the outsourcing of tower services is a global phenomenon as far as the telecoms business is concerned, operators in Nigeria are, however, leveraging on the business model now to cut down on their cost of operation.

Experts are of the view that this may be the second time that the sector will experience huge job losses, following the outsourcing exercise for the customer service section of the major operators four years ago, which saw a lot of employees in the industry losing their jobs. With the outsourcing model, telecoms firms are expected to hands-off their involvement in the provision and maintenance of towers and instead allow companies with core competence in the area to manage such services.

Google has sold struggling US mobile phone company Motorola Mobility to Chinese computer maker Lenovo for $2.91bn in a surprise move. Google had paid $12.5bn for the company less than two years ago. Lenovo plans to build up its smartphone unit through the Motorola purchase, which may help offset its slowing personal computer business.

In a statement, Google said the smartphone market was "super competitive" and that Motorola would "be better served by Lenovo". The purchase is set to make Lenovo the world's third-largest smartphone maker behind Samsung and Apple.

India Arie Writes About Racism & Politics of the 2014 Grammy Awards

                              India Arie - January 2014 - BellaNaija 02
American recording artiste India Arie wasn’t pleased with how the 2014 Grammy Awards went down on Sunday night at the Staples Center, Los Angeles, California. She took to her Tumblr page to speak out on how black artistes were not recognized and also made mention of how the show is all about popularity and not the music and ended by asking why Nelson Mandela wasn’t recognized.

Read it below;
@Kendricklamar WAS robbed, BUT he was not the only one who was robbed. Personally, I was pleased he was able to perform and they KILLED! IT! One of the FEW moving moments of the night for ME.
Though it’s called “Music industries biggest night” the #Grammys are NOT about the music, it’s a popularity contest. The voting process allows people, to vote on name recognition alone – the music industry politics is a whole NUTHER conversation.  Too much to go into here.

8 (ridiculous) sex myths you should ignore

 By:  Smitten Kitten

Many believe that certain sex positions can help you conceive the gender of the baby you want. Well, it’s not possible. We totally recommend you try whatever sex position you fancy, but don’t expect it help you conceive a girl or boy of your choice.
1. Myth: Men have more sexual urges than women
Fact: The media and society may have portrayed it that way, but let us make it clear that women are equally excited about sex. Also, you if you believe that men are ready to pull the gun 24×7, the truth is that men experience daily fluctuations in libido just like women.
