BBC Media Action is the international development charity of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), working in over 25 countries across the world. BBC Media Action works in  partnership with local media agencies, civil society organisations, and governments to achieve long term development goals. We produce creative media content to inform and engage audiences, and strengthen the media sector by building professional skills and technical capacity.

The BBC Media Action is looking for interested/motivated candidates to join the Team as:
1.  


   Producer/Trainer - (Salary range from N250,000.00 gross per month)

The position is  Abuja based with frequent travel.  The contract duration is for one year with possibility of renewal subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance. The start date is February/March 2014 with a probation period of 3 months for each of the position.
This role requires a dynamic trainer or mentor with a background in radio production and experience developing the capacity of media professionals. The position will be based in Abuja, though may spend up to one month at a time away from base delivering training and mentoring activities for radio stations and other partners across Nigeria, with a particular focus on Kebbi state.

The position will play a principal role in the capacity building elements of a new project that focuses on improving media treatment of childhoodillnesses. The successful candidate will train and support media professionals in a wide range of programme production skills and take responsibility for designing training materials and methods of evaluation. The candidate will offer on-going mentoring support to trainees when in Abuja. S/he will ensure coordination of activities with other members of the BBC Media Action training team. 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
·         Under the guidance and direction of the Head of Training, conduct and coordinate training activities in Kebbi state for a new project on childhood illness.
·         Design and deliver trainings that meet the project’s development objectives and meet the highest BBC standards, including developing workplans, facilitating training logistics, creating training materials, and identifying and documenting lessons from project activities.
·         Coordinate closely with other departments to guarantee that training plans are drawing on, and informing, other activities as appropriate and in compliance with all BBC Media Action policies and procedures.
·         Travel regularly within Nigeria when necessary and - if required - at short notice.
·         Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience required
·         Extensive production background at a senior level, preferably in the area of interactive radio/television, behaviour change communication spot production and Health related journalism.
·         Experience mentoring or training media professionals.
·         Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills, including the ability to enthuse trainees, give constructive feedback and facilitate learning in a focused and friendly atmosphere.
·         Proven ability to analyse and critically evaluate editorial content, identifying strengths and weaknesses in programme content and driving constant improvement in output.
·         A proven track record in the careful management of budgets.
·         Evidence of full conversance with the latest production-related technology.

ACADEMIC/PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION
·         A good university degree in any related field but preferably in Mass Communication or Social Sciences.
·         A minimum of 2 years experience in training media practitioners on program production
A minimum of 2 years experience in electronic media program production especially in development issues.

Assistant Producer (Radio Drama)

The position is  Abuja based.  The contract duration is for one year with possibility of renewal subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance. The start date is February/March 2014 with a  probation period of 3 months for each of the position.

JOB PURPOSE

The Assistant Producer will support the work of the Production Department by working directly with the Producer (Radio Drama) to deliver on specific messaging and themes required by the funding partners.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Assist the producer and production department in all activities required to produce and distribute radio drama outputs on time and within budget
·         Coordinate, conduct, and communicate the results of content research on key themes and messages to ensure that all contentinformation is accurate, clear, and unambiguous across languages
·         Help to identify, contract, and liaise with contributors, interviewers, script-writers, actors, and other freelancers involved in developing and producing the radio drama.
·         Support the creative process to contributing to the development of story lines and scripts, ensuring that content is both engaging and in line with project objective and lives up to bc editorial values and standards. 
·         Perform any other duty as may be required.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience required
·         Production background and experience, preferably in the area of radio drama, developing scripts and coordinating script-writing processes
·         Proven organisational, communication and interpersonal skills and be well versed in the use of the computer;
·         Evidence of imagination and an enthusiasm for generating new ideas, particularly those with the widest possible audience appeal.
·         Knowledge of latest production-related technology and techniques, particularly for radio recording.
·         Strong understanding of the role of communications in development.

ACADEMIC/PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION

·         A good first degree in Theatre Arts, Mass Communication, Communication Arts, English or the Social Sciences or any other relevant field.
·         An additional certificate/Training in scriptwriting/editing, programme production, directing will be an added advantage;

3Producer (Radio Drama) - (Salary – N250,000.00 gross per month)

JOB PURPOSE
The Producer will create, design, plan and produce programmes on agreed themes.  Facilitate script writing, editing and production using and developing appropriate mechanisms and systems while ensuring compliance with established procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
·         Identify, organise and oversee the activities of writers, actors, directors, sound engineers, assistant producers and other personnel throughout the production process for a radio drama, including contracting, logistics, scheduling, research, writing, recording, and editing.
·         Ensure that all scripts and recordings meet project objectives and are in line with BBC Editorial values and standards, by working with script-writers in developing story outlines and editing final drafts and working with directors in rehearsals and recordings.
·         Coordinate with other departments as appropriate to ensure that production outputs are meeting project objectives, drawing on research findings, informing training, and being distributed on time.
·         Monitor and ensure that expenses are in compliance with production budget.
·         Prepare operational reports;
·         Perform any other duties that may be assigned.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
·         Production background and experience, preferably in the area of radio drama, developing scripts and coordinating script-writing processes
·         Possess ability to analyse and critically evaluate editorial content, identifying strengths and weaknesses in programme content and ways to improve it
·         Experience managing a team and coordinating multiple roles to deliver project outputs on time and in budget.
·         Proven organisational, communication and interpersonal skills and be well versed in the use of the computer;
