57 year old cab driver, Solomon James
Okoroh was shot and killed in the area of Kalorama Road Northwest early tuesday
morning. D.C. police say two people are in custody as suspects of the shooting.
According to Police Chief Cathy Lanier,
officers were investigating burglaries at approximately 3:15 a.m. Police
say the officers heard a car spin out of control and went to
investigate. They saw a Classic Cab had crashed into a parking meter
in the 2400 block of Ontario off Kalorama Road NW, say police. Officers
heard a gunshot and saw two people run from the cab, according to Lanier.
In the dark due to a power outage in
the neighborhood, the officers pursued the people on foot, says Lanier. That’s
when the suspects turned and opened fire on the officers, according to Lanier.
The officers returned fire.
Lanier says one gunman forced his way
into a nearby home by kicking in the door. Police officers followed him in and
took him into custody, says Lanier.
The other suspect was also taken into
custody, according to Lanier.
The driver was shot and later
died due to his injuries.
