But Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook, which also owns Instagram denied they were ever hacked and blamed the outage on 'a change that affected our configuration systems'.

Twitter has sued the US government over surveillance laws. Under current regulations, Twitter cannot reveal certain information about government requests for users' data relating to national security. Twitter argues that this violates the right to free speech, as defined by the First Amendment to the US Constitution. The firm said it brought the case in an effort to force the government to be more transparent about personal data requests.
"It's our belief that we are entitled under the First Amendment to respond to our users' concerns and to the statements of US government officials by providing information about the scope of US government surveillance," Twitter's lawyer, Ben Lee, wrote in a blog post.

Microsoft to release Android-powered Nokia X2 handset

                   Nokia X2
Microsoft has unveiled its first phone after completing its takeover of Nokia's handset division - and the device is powered by Android. The operating system, developed by Google, is usually seen as a rival to Microsoft's own Windows Phone OS. Microsoft said the Nokia X2 offered it a way to hook users into its cloud-based services, several of which come pre-installed as apps.
One expert said the alternative would have been leaving "money on the table". "I still find it astounding that Microsoft is making Android phones, but there seems to be a steely determination to take a more open approach for the greater good of the whole company rather than just the Windows Phone platform," said Ben Wood, from the telecoms consultancy CCS Insight.

Technology giant Apple records 8% Profit on iPhone Sales

The Apple Inc logo sits on display at the company's store in the Gran Plaza 2 shopping mall in Majadahonda, near Madrid, Spain, on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012.
Technology giant Apple reported profits of $10.2bn (£6.1bn) after selling 43.7 million iPhones during the three-month period ending 29 March. Apple also announced plans to buy an additional $30bn of its stock back from shareholders and to increase its quarterly dividend by 8%. It also said it would split its stock for the first time in nine years.
The moves are meant to appease investors as the firm reports slowing revenue growth. Apple chief executive Tim Cook warned Wall Street back in January that this would be a disappointing quarter. However, in the end that pessimism proved somewhat unfounded. Even though the tech giant lacked any significant new driver to move the earnings or revenue needle, the performance of iPhone sales will silence critics who have suggested the new handsets are not innovative enough for consumers.

Google's future phone: The modular Project Ara

Google's Project Ara is a modular smartphone with swappable hardware components held together by magnets.
Google is jumping into its next futuristic hardware project. This time it's a modular smartphone dubbed Project Ara that can be customized by swapping out individual pieces, such as the battery and the camera.
The company previewed the very early-stage project at a developer event in Santa Clara, California, this week. Google said the first version of the phone will likely be available in early 2015. Though the company didn't mention a sale price, it said the devices would cost anywhere from $50 to $500 to manufacture, depending on the model.

The phone will come in three sizes, ranging from mini to "phablet," and it will run on a future version of the Android mobile operating system. A frame called the Endo will hold the interchangeable components together with magnets. The idea is to allow smartphone owners to customize and update their phones on their own -- say, popping out an old battery or broken display for a new version, and thereby creating a device that lasts longer than current smartphones.

Facebook launches friend-tracking feature

Facebook on Thursday rolled out a "Nearby Friends" feature, which uses location information to let users know which friends are near them in the real world. Read on for more stats about Facebook, which turned 10 in February.
Facebook is introducing a mobile feature called Nearby Friends that taps into that steady stream of location information so friends can track each other in real time. The idea is to make it easy for people to meet up in real life, so they can have conversations in person instead of comment threads, temporarily replacing Likes and LOLs with eye contact and actual laughter. A live meet-up is also an excellent opportunity to grab a selfie with your pal and upload it to the Facebook owned Instagram.

Galaxy S5 fingerprint scanner hacked with glue mould

               Galaxy S5 and fingerprint mould
The fingerprint sensor on Samsung's Galaxy S5 handset has been hacked less than a week after the device went on sale. Berlin-based Security Research Labs fooled the equipment using a mould it had previously created to spoof the sensor on Apple's iPhone 5S. The researchers said they were concerned that thieves could exploit the flaw in Samsung's device to trigger money transfers via PayPal.
The payments firm played down the risk. "While we take the findings from Security Research Labs [SRL] very seriously, we are still confident that fingerprint authentication offers an easier and more secure way to pay on mobile devices than passwords or credit cards," it said.
