Samsung Electronics UK has announced the Galaxy K Zoom , a new
“Camera-Specialized Smartphone” that sports a 20-megapixel sensor on a 4.8-inch
smartphone body. This is an Android-based system, running Android 4.4 KitKat.
Samsung’s got a suite of custom software on board as well, including a “lite”
version of its excellent S-Health app, and the new Ultra Power Saving Mode.
It’s powered by a hexacore system, with a quad-core processor running at 1.3
GHz alongside a dual-core processor at 1.7 GHz. It’s got 2 gigabytes of RAM,
8GB of onboard storage (actual useable space will be less), and can take a
microSD card for external storage. The Galaxy K Zoom has a 2,430 mAh battery.
The camera is a 20.7MP backside illuminated CMOS
sensor. It’s got a 10x optical zoom and xenon flash and object tracking for
when the subject’s not standing still.
And, yes, this is a smartphone, with full 3G and 4G
LTE data. For Wifi, you’ve got 802.11 a/b/g/n.

The Galaxy K Zoom has an advanced technical camera
system designed to give you the control and functionality of an advanced camera,
so you never miss important moments and can always capture them with complete
clarity. It comes equipped with new retracting lens technology that provides a
10x optical zoom in a remarkably slim and chic body. Other notable features
include the 20.7 megapixel BSI CMOS sensor for ultra-clear, ultra-detailed
images. The device excels in low light conditions, and provides Optical Image
Stabiliser (OIS) to reduce blur caused by movement, so you will always get
pictures and video in Full HD that are crisp and sharp, even when zoomed-in and
in low light. In addition, the device’s Xenon Flash provides a brighter light
than LEDs to improve the quality of the image with natural brilliance.
The Galaxy K Zoom also includes advanced camera
features and functions, including; AF/AE Separation (Auto Focus/Auto Exposure
Separation) for the precise balance of light and clarity; next-generation Pro
Suggest mode which offers 10 optimised filter settings; a Selfie Alarm so you
can take timed selfies with ease; and object tracking for a clear, focused shot
