THE BITTER TRUTH

By: Amaka Ezekwere

I always enjoy watching my Blackberry contact display pictures, well who doesn't. Most times it’s just for the sake of looking and other times it helps me keep up with the latest trend in fashion “being a fashion lover myself” ***wink*** Afterwards, the only thing I honestly do is head to the most exotic fashion outlet in search of the clothes I saved on my phone. I know you might be criticizing me now, but it’s a habit am presently working on.

Although I have never had any reason to have a sober reflection about display pictures, I recently noticed a particular friend of mine put up different pictures of her husband, with messages like, 'I've got the best husband in d world'.  'God please bless and favor my hubby today'.  Me come tire for this lady matter because me sef dey pray for my nna but no be everytime I dey put up picture of my nna. I honestly thought she was done with that and before I knew it my friend entered another level. This time she had her picture and that of her husband appear side by side, with the message “God I thank you for my darling and wonderful husband, he is my world.

At that point! I looked beyond the pictures and concentrated on the last two words, 'my world'. Then it dawned on me that she wasn't flaunting him for tongues to wag or to show she has the best husband in the world, rather she was celebrating him inwardly.

Reality dawned on me; I couldn't help but pause for a moment and ask myself, of what importance is my husband to me? What does he really represent in my life? Truly, he is my 'Treasure', 'Ezigbom', my best.  That actually ended our one day semi quarrel. Truly if only we as couples can search our hearts and see the pictures of our spouses and say to ourselves! “This is what you mean to me and hold on to it”, I think we will surely achieve our marital goal.

Don't forget that a man's heart is always where his treasure is. I might not often put up my husband's picture as my display picture, but see I  him as my treasure that must be well looked after, because we are forever in love.

Ezigbom, Obim , Nna, I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU!!!
