MUST WATCH VIDEO: FG Bans Film On Nigerian Poverty

Wonders they say shall never end. The Nigerian government has banned the airing and distribution of the documentary, Fueling Poverty, a 30-minute film which documents the massive poverty in Nigeria and advocates against corruption and greed in the country.

 

The documentary, released late in 2012, was produced by young filmmaker, Ishaya Bako, in partnership with the Open Society for West Africa [OSIWA].
After the project was completed last year, Mr. Bako sent it in to the National Film and Video Censors Board, NFVCB, a national agency which vets, classifies, and approves films and videos meant for distribution and exhibition in Nigeria.

But in an April 8 letter to Mr. Bako, exclusively obtained by PREMIUM TIMES Friday, the agency prohibited the distribution and exhibition of the documentary in Nigeria, saying its contents “are highly provocative and likely to incite or encourage public disorder and undermine national security.”

Researchers spent 15 years studying the breasts of over 330 French women, and concluded that wearing a bra does not prevent sagging or ease back pain as commonly thought. "Medically, physiologically, anatomically—breasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity, Professor Jean-Denis Rouillon, from the University of Besançon, told France Info Radio. "On the contrary, they get saggier with a bra."

Lion Air Plane Crashes Into Sea In Bali, Indonesia-AP

A Lion Air plane carrying more than 100 passengers overshot a runway on the Indonesian resort island of Bali on Saturday and crashed into the sea, police said. Bali Police Chief Arif Wahyunadi told local TV One that all of the passengers and crew were evacuated from the plane and taken into the airport terminal for treatment. Hospital officials and paramedics said at least seven passengers were taken to Sanglah hospital with head wounds and broken bones. Many passengers arrived with wet clothes and bruises.

Facebook Murder Victim Cynthia Osokogu Died of “Asphyxia,” Says Lagos Pathologist

Cynthia Osokogu, the young student who was killed in July 2012 by some of her Facebook social media friends, was asphyxiated, that is: suffocated to death through blockage of air into her lungs. In his testimony before the court today, the Chief Pathologist of Lagos State, John Oladapo Obafunwa, said the postmortem he carried out alongside five other colleagues on September 6 showed that the deceased died of blockage of air into the upper part of the air ways.

Efforts by Victor Opara, the counsel to the first defendant, Okwumo Nwafor, to prevent Mr. Obafunwa’s testimony from being taken failed as Justice Olabisi Akinlade insisted the trial was too important to be delayed with flimsy excuses.

SAD NEWS, FIRST ANAMBRA STATE DEPUTY GOVERNOR KIDNAPPED AND KILLED.

 
First Deputy Governor of Anambra State and National Vice President of ACN (South East), Dr. Chudi Nwike, who was kidnapped on March 19, has been killed by his kidnappers.

Dr Nwike's corpse was found on Monday April 8th in the middle of the road leading to Alizomor community near Agbor in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, after the family had paid the kidnappers N5m ransom.

The late ACN chieftain served as deputy governor between 1991 and 1993, under former governor, Dr. Chukwu-emeka Ezeife. See ACN press release on Dr Nwike's murder after the cut...

During the last Easter holiday, I was absolutely tired of staying alone. All I could think of was having a change of environment and people. Ok to cut the long story short, I left my house on the Mainland to my friend’s place on the Island. I was really happy being there , we had not seen for quite some time due the normal Lagos busy schedule, we had lots gist to catch up on; you know babes and their regular amebor pattern; “Laughing”.

FLOATING SCHOOL IN MAKOKO/IWAYA

I was honestly surprised when I read an article that residents of Makoko/Iwaya Waterfront in Yaba Local Council Development Area, LCDA, will soon begin to enjoy the luxury of a floating school jointly built by the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP and NLE Works, Nigeria.
The three storey floating building is part of the regeneration plan for the coastal community.According to the builders the construction of the school is aimed at achieving the Millennium Development Goals, MDGs, Goal II, which is to boost universal primary education. This came barely eight months after the Lagos State government demolished hundreds of ‘illegal structures in the area.
Although residents of the community were already heaving a sigh of relief, anticipating that many of their children will now have access to sound education. My only fear with all this is just the safety of the children. How safe can a building constructed on water be?

EFCC Insists that Akingbola’s N47.1 Billion Trial Can be Treated in Nigeria.

A Lagos High Court today continued to hear arguments on two applications  filed by Erastus Akingbola, a former boss of the Intercontinental Bank, and Bayo Dada, his alleged accomplice in financial crimes. Mr. Akingbola and his accomplice, who reportedly ran Tropical Securities Ltd, are accused of stealing N47.1 billion from the bank.

Mr. Akingbola is seeking the court’s permission to travel abroad on medical grounds, while Mr. Dada is asking the court to compel the EFCC to review his bail conditions.

In a bid to win a favorable ruling for his client, Mr. Akingbola’s counsel,  Wole Olanipekun (SAN) reminded Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo of his own decisions in other similar cases. He recalled that case of Wale Babalakin, the chief executive of Bi-Courtney Ltd., accused of helping launder funds stolen from Delta State by former Governor James Ibori from Delta, now serving a 13-year jail term in the United Kingdom. Justice Onigbanjo had ordered that the Mr. Babalakin’s travel passport be returned to him on the condition that the suspect must provide the passport within 72 hours of the court’s request for it.
