DO YOU FEEL SAFE SHOPPING ONLINE

During the last Easter holiday, I was absolutely tired of staying alone. All I could think of was having a change of environment and people. Ok to cut the long story short, I left my house on the Mainland to my friend’s place on the Island. I was really happy being there , we had not seen for quite some time due the normal Lagos busy schedule, we had lots gist to catch up on; you know babes and their regular amebor pattern; “Laughing”.

In our quest for more fun, we meet some other friends and we started engaging in my very own hot topic: ONLINE SHOPPING.

I discovered that most of the people who live on the island just enjoy shopping online, they prefer carrying their cards around, make orders and I guess they eventually deliver the items purchased to their doorsteps; I just have no definite clue on the certainty with that. Even at that I still find it hard using my card; no matter how hard you preach or educate me about online shopping I still will not believe any word you say, especially in a country like Nigeria.

Flowing from a research I did while at Robert Gordon University during my LLM program, I still vividly remember the topic “ELECTRONIC CONTRACTS AND CYBER CRIMER” remembering things like Identity theft, cloning a site, cyber policy, cyber errors, and cybercrimes honestly sends shivers down my spine. You can call me paranoid, ancient myopic in my reasoning or even ask how much money is in my account that am trying to protect but it can never change the fact that the level of cyber crime being perpetuated each day has totally escalated.

Although online retail companies in Nigeria such as DEALDEY, JUMAI and KONGA are really putting efforts in trying to create an exceptional brand for themselves, however, I am yet to see how good they are. Only time will tell. Well if you give me your card, i will you it but using mine online will always be a no no.

Do you share a different view?
