WHO WILL BE MY VALENTINE " 2014"

By: Ada Oyiboka

Every year I look forward to Valentine’s Day. This year I want to believe  it will be better than ever.  The funniest thing is dreaming about February 14, I always imagine a delivery man coming to my office with beautiful red roses, a tastefully looking cake and a nicely decorated gift box.

I always imagine that when I open it I could either have a designer hand bag or a lovely pair of shoe and of course my Moschino perfume to be precise “ FUNNY” I love its  floral-fruity sexy feminine fragrance and I will be happy if I get one this year.

The last 100ml bottle I got last year is almost finished. Lord please may he read this article. Who would be my valentine? How many cards would I receive? Would he know my favorite flowers?

Valentine’s Day is the day of love, passion and romance and is the most anticipated day in the year for couples and this year that day actually falls on a Friday so there is actually no excuse. Especially guys that have multiple partners, there is no running this year, you really have to arrange yourself and treat her right!!!

However being single and Valentine’s Day don’t go hand in hand, it’s a day singles dread the most. It’s inevitable that you’re single on Valentine’s Day but if you follow my six amazing do’s and don’ts you will have an amazing time.
1. Do go out! If you’re in a relationship, take your partner out to dinner/cinema/shopping, basically any outdoor event! Everyone loves a romantic gesture and they’ll thank you for it, in a way you’ll love. However, if you’re single…Do the same! Don’t sit at home and start thinking of how frustrated your life is without any man in it. You can either go out and have that amazing meal you love the most or better still if you decided that you want to spend that day at home stop by at your favorite pizza shop and get the best flavor you enjoy most, don’t forget to either buy a bottle of sweet red wine or good ice-cream. Alternatively, if you have a couple of single friends, call them up, go out for drinks and chat over things that will make you all laugh so well.
2. Don’t call your ex! We’ve all been there, wondering whether we made the right choice but call it a cliché…they are exes for a reason. I don’t need to say whether you’re single or not, it’s just downright Noooooo! You may end up doing something you will really regret. Am sure you know what am talking about.
3. Do something Amazing! Ok, maybe that might be a little bit overdoing it but fill the day with surprises. In a relationship? Surprise your partner, with little notes saying why you love them or send a big bunch of flowers, either way you do it, just surprise them. Single? Do something you wouldn’t normally do, within moral lines of course! It could be something small like visiting someone you haven’t seen in a while (no exes) whatever you choose do, make it worthwhile.
4. Don’t do what you did last year valentine’s day! Single? Well…I can only assume that you were single last year, and so was I. What I regret the most was staying on my bed and crying so hard, taking ice- cream, I played some love songs and prayed for sleep to come but it just did not show up on time. I ended up getting so fat and more miserable. Please be different this year, cos I already have plans for this year, change it up and have fun!
In a relationship? Just because you did something really good, doesn’t mean you should do it twice. Your partner will appreciate the difference and effort you put into making this Valentine’s Day even more special.
5. Do go on holiday! In a relationship? There is nothing more romantic than jetting off on a romantic surprise getaway with your partner, remember this year it falls on a Friday so why not travel for the weekend this Valentine’s Day? Book a top secret hotel and whisk your partner away. Single? Book a mini getaway with your friends and who knows you might just meet someone.

6. Don’t put pressure on yourself or your partner to do something, whether single or not. It’s a day about love and happiness, no matter who you’re with. So don’t lose sight of that. However it is, always remember to be happy, have fun and appreciate life and the person next to you.
Aside what I have stated above. Valentine ’s Day is also a remarkable day to show love to the less privilege ones, you can visit them and buy some gifts for them, you can also give alms to people on the street. You can also surprise someone or people in your office by buying a box of chocolate or cake for everyone to share.
Who will be my Valentine? I am so excited and I can’t wait for February 14, 2014 to emerge. xxx
Happy Valentine’s Day!
