needed in an Orphanage Home with children with Physical and learning
disabilities; this initiative is managed by a renowned NGO, Murtala Muhammed
Foundation with
JOB DESCRIPTION: OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST
JOB DUTIES
The Occupational therapist will be working
with a diverse range of children who all have different needs. Their aim is to
understand each child’s requirements and lifestyle so they can create the best
environment, treatment plan for them.
The work of the occupational therapist will
include:
·
advise
on specialist equipment to assist with daily activities;
·
develop
a rehabilitation programme to help re-build lost skills and restore lost
confidence;
·
advise
on home and environmental alterations, such as adjustments for wheelchair access;
·
teach anxiety management
techniques;
·
coach
children with learning difficulties or poor social skills, e.g. inhandling day
to day activities and social interaction;
·
mentor
children on how to control their own behaviour;
·
liaise
with a wide variety of other professionals, such as doctors,
physiotherapists, social workers, as well as carers etc
·
organise
support and rehabilitation groups for carers and clients;
·
Evaluate
each child’s progress and prepare reports that detail progress.
·
Test
and evaluate child’s' physical and mental abilities and analyze medical data to
determine realistic rehabilitation goals for patients.
·
Select activities that will help children
learn work and life-management skills within limits of their mental and
physical capabilities.
·
Consult
with rehabilitation team to select activity programs and coordinate
occupational therapy with other therapeutic activities.
·
Help
children improve decision making, abstract reasoning, memory, sequencing,
coordination and perceptual skills, using computer programs.
Qualification/Skill set
· The
ideal candidate must have at least a degree in Occupational therapyor
related course.
· Minimum
of 3-5years experience of working with Children with Cerebral Palsy.
· Must
love children and be willing to work with challenged children
· Very
innovative and creative
· Patient
and Passionate for the job
