Apple rolls out Cheaper MacBook Airs

                                 

Apple has refreshed its line of MacBook Air notebooks, dropping in more powerful processors and knocking $100 off the price. The 11-inch Air, with 128GB of storage, now sells for $899 and options range up to a 13-inch screen with 256GB of storage for $1,199. The new versions of the computers, which Apple announced Tuesday, contain fourth-generation Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors.

Apple says the new processors work with its OS X Mavericks operating system to provide 12 hours of battery life on the 13-inch models and 9 hours on the 11-inch MacBook Airs.

Aero Contractors Helicopter Seized For Mistakenly Landing On Enugu Governor’s Lodge

                              

A helicopter bearing the markings of Aero Contractors which mistakenly landed at Governor’s lodge of Enugu Government House yesterday at around 10.30am has been seized. The pilot and the crew members of the helicopter were also detained at the government lodge for alleged security breach.

The crew members upon interrogation said the helicopter mistook the Government House for the State House of Assembly complex from where they were meant to convey the corpse of a deceased member of old Anambra State House of Assembly, Sir Andrew Umeoji.

Five persons have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over allegation of fraudulent transfer of a total of N5, 550,000.00 (Five Million, Five Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) from an account in Skye Bank.

The suspects, Ademola Okunlola, 36; Tajudeen Oluwanisola, 41; Kolawole Adams, 52; Temitope Pedro, 27; Bayo Olowoyo, 39 and Otunba Biodun Adebanjo, 56, were picked up in different locations in Lagos by operatives of the anti- graft agency for allegedly effecting the fraudulent transfer of N5, 550,000.00 from the account of one Ajani Kareem Musibau domiciled in Skye Bank Plc.

NBA bans racist Clippers owner for life; fines him $2.5M

Donald Sterling, the L.A Clippers owner who was caught on tape making disgusting racist comments to his girlfriend has been banned for life from the NBA and fined $2.5 million, which is the maxmum fine that can be imposed under NBA rules. Under the ban, the 81 year old can’t go to games, attend practices, make decisions regarding the team or attend NBA meetings.

Basketball Commissioner Adam Silver made the announcement this evening Tuesday April 29th, saying the National Basketball Association will force Sterling to sell the team, which he has owned since the 80′s, to another organization.

Alison-Madueke gets court injunction stopping reps from probing her for N10b jet scandal

          

Minister of Petroleum, Dieziani Alison-Madueke, who has been in the middle of a N10bn jet scandal has secured a court injunction stopping the House of Representatives from further investigating her, Premium Times reports. Alison-Madueke had approached a federal high court in Abuja where she asked the court to restrain the House members to discontinue any probe involving her.

Justice . R. Mohammed who presided over the case, barred the house members or their committees  from summoning her for any further investigations or even ordering her arrest if she failed to appear before the house. According to reports, the court injuction was secured on April 14th but was only made public today as the House intended to commence further investigation on the matter today.

Former Gov. Peter Obi Distributes Cars To Senators To Ease Path For Appointment As Aviation Minister

                                  

According to Saharareporters, Former Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State has handed car gifts to key senators, including Senate President David Mark, in order to ease his path to appointment as Nigeria’s new Aviation Minister. President Goodluck Jonathan has promised the post of Aviation Minister to Mr. Obi who in mid-March finished his second term as governor. Mr. Obi, a leader of the All Peoples Grand Alliance (APGA), is in line to be rewarded with a cabinet post for his political loyalty to the incumbent president. But Mr. Obi has been handing out cars and cash to senators after discovering that there was significant opposition to him within the ruling party.

After his exit from Government House, Awka, Mr. Obi’s name was touted as a potential government appointee, first as a replacement for Pius Anyim, a former senator and current Secretary of the Federal Government who is believed to be seriously weighing a governorship race in Ebonyi State. But several political heavyweights within the PDP moved against Mr. Obi, two sources in the party said. One source disclosed that several of the PDP’s top members, including its national chairman, voiced their stance that an original member of the party, specifically Jerry Ugokwe, should be tipped to take any post for which Mr. Obi was being considered.

Samsung Electronics UK  has announced the Galaxy K Zoom , a new “Camera-Specialized Smartphone” that sports a 20-megapixel sensor on a 4.8-inch smartphone body. This is an Android-based system, running Android 4.4 KitKat. Samsung’s got a suite of custom software on board as well, including a “lite” version of its excellent S-Health app, and the new Ultra Power Saving Mode. It’s powered by a hexacore system, with a quad-core processor running at 1.3 GHz alongside a dual-core processor at 1.7 GHz. It’s got 2 gigabytes of RAM, 8GB of onboard storage (actual useable space will be less), and can take a microSD card for external storage. The Galaxy K Zoom has a 2,430 mAh battery.

The camera is a 20.7MP backside illuminated CMOS sensor. It’s got a 10x optical zoom and xenon flash and object tracking for when the subject’s not standing still.

Nigerian Producer/Director Amaka Igwe Dies at 51

                                          

Foremost producer, writer, director and a leading player in the Nigerian motion picture industry, Amaka Igwe has passed on. She died last night April 28th in Enugu after an asthma attack.

‘She suffered an asthma attack and was immediately rushed to the hospital after initial interventions had failed.’ said a statement gotten via The Net ‘She passed on before getting to the hospital’.  Amaka Igwe was in Enugu to work on a new soap opera died after suffering an Asthma attack.

$250m Abacha loot: FG seeks World Bank’s help

The Federal Government is currently reaching out to the World Bank to assist it in the repatriation of €185m (about $250m) allegedly stolen by the late dictator, Gen. Sani Abacha. A Liechtenstein court had in 2012 ordered the confiscation of the money recovered from companies linked to the Abacha family. Since then, the Federal Government had been fighting to recover the money without success.

A competent Presidency source confided in our correspondent on Thursday that the government decided to approach the World Bank for help when it became obvious that the Abacha family would not let go of the money.
