NYSC members for 2015 elections - DG

NYSC and INEC have concluded arrangements to use corps members as Electoral Officers for the general elections in 2015. The Director General of NYSC, Brig. Gen. Johnson Olawunmi, made this known in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria in Obubra, Cross River, on Thursday. He warned corps members against engaging in fraudulent practices during the elections.

“No corps member is expected to collect money from any politician or give out sensitive electoral materials for any financial reason. “Any corps member caught in this act will be severely punished. “The use of corps members in elections has become part of the electoral process for obvious reasons.

“Corps members are well educated and enlightened to handle election materials in all local government areas of the federation,” he said. According to him, NYSC and INEC will pay corps members allowances for participating in the elections

The D-G expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements in the Obubra camp and thanked Gov. Liyel Imoke of Cross River for ensuring adequate protection of corps members serving in the state.

He said the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneur Development programme would reduce unemployment and make corps members to be job creators after their service year.

“NYSC is collaborating with the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Bank of Industry to facilitate loans to corps members with good business ideas,” he said.
