SWEET PAYBACK: Samsung Pays Its $1bn Fine To Apple In Coins

Stories have surfaced the internet claiming Samsung was paying its $1billion fine to Apple in nickels, but there is not truth to the stories. A Mexican website had reported that Samsung was going to pay the fine cheekily arriving at the doorstep of Apple’s HQ with 30 dump trucks full of nickels (5 cent coins).

Reported by website Snopes, the physical reality of doing this would mean Samsung would have to get its hands on every nickel produced by the U.S. Mint in the last several decades (20 billion of them) and actually 2,755 trucks as opposed to 30 – each capable of lugging 40 tonnes’ worth of coin.
Also according to US Treasury laws, Apple had a legal right refuse to make the transaction if Samsung had indeed attempted to pay with coins.
