I
was so sad when i heard reports that Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas
are having a break from their relationship. A spokesperson for the couple told
The Daily Mail: “Catherine and Michael are taking some time apart to evaluate
and work on their marriage. There will be no further comment.”
The
movie star couple have been together for 13 years. Earlier in the week The
Mirror reported an insider told them "Michael is going to announce the
split soon. Catherine is fighting to save the marriage but he's had it." It's
been a tough few years for the couple, who haven't been pictured in public
together since they attended a charity event in April.
Following the news that Michael had been diagnosed with throat cancer in 2011, Catherine voluntarily checked herself into a clinic to seek treatment for her bipolar disorder. Reflecting on the turbulent time, Catherine recently told Stella magazine: "I wasn't as strong as I thought I could have been. I look back and I can't believe the strength he had."
Michael and Catherine, who have 25 years between them, have two children together, Dylan Michael and Carys Zeta. Catherine once revealed that when the pair first met, Michael's chat-up line to her was: "I want to father your children."
