Consumers seeking smart mobile devices
from which they can derive optimum value need look no further, as Samsung
announces its new Galaxy Star smartphone, an affordable solution targeted at
the younger generation of mobile phone users.
Featuring a dual-SIM
functionality, the entry-level smartphone is powered by an A5 1GHz processor
and the latest Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system. It has a three-inch
touch screen, 2 megapixel camera, 512 MB RAM and 4GB internal memory. The
device is already available at Samsung stores and accredited dealers
nationwide, with a formal unveiling scheduled for June, 2013 in Lagos.
Director of Hand Held
Products at Samsung Electronics West Africa, Mr. Emmanouil Revmatas, reiterated
the company’s commitment to providing mobile phones that suit the unique needs
and resources of individuals in Nigeria and indeed, the whole of Africa.
“Mobile handsets are rapidly
becoming the centre of our lives, even as more and more users desire access to
content and to enjoy more features and activities such as gaming, video and
music anytime, anywhere, via their devices,” said Revmatas.
“At Samsung, we understand
that consumer habits and consumption patterns are changing, thus, we are
providing our consumers with the opportunity to own a device with features of a
high-end smartphone at a much lower cost. The Galaxy Star is a device that
provides superior value to consumers based on its features, intuitive
performance and design. “We want more and more feature phone users to upgrade
to the Samsung Galaxy Star smartphones .” Revmatas added.
In furtherance of its
commitment to empowering Nigerian youths, Samsung will also be sponsoring ten
Nigerian amateur videographers and film makers on an all-expense paid trip to
Dubai, where they will attend training seminars and workshops to hone their
skills in video production and directing, through its Galaxy Star Campaign.
Individuals interested in
participating in the initiative are required to shoot a video using the Galaxy
Star smartphone and upload same on Samsung’s website between June 3 and July 7,
2013. 20 winning videos will be shortlisted via public voting after which ten
finalists will be selected for the trip to Dubai by a renowned Nigerian film
producer.
Samsung Electronics West
Africa’s Marketing Manager for Hand Held Products, Ms. Olajumoke Okikiolu,
described the campaign as Samsung’s way of showing its commitment to the
development of talent in Nigeria by providing young videographers and directors
in Nigeria’s music video and film industry with the much-needed training and
global exposure.
“At Samsung, we are committed
to providing avenues for Nigerian youths to pursue their dreams and passions,
as we believe that this would help to unlock the country’s huge economic potential.
The workshops being organized in Dubai for the empowerment of winners of the
Galaxy Star video competition is one of several initiatives that Samsung is
undertaking towards achieving this goal. We are very proud to contribute to the
growth of Nigeria’s music and film industry with this initiative,” she said.
The “Galaxy Star Campaign” is
one of several youth empowerment projects undertaken by Samsung Electronics
West Africa over the past few years, as part of its corporate social investment
initiatives.
